Joan Field was a WREN stationed at a very remote signal station overlooking the Firth of Lorne in Scotland. Her job was to ensure that every passing ship, from the Morag Jane to the Duke of York, was challenged and identified. If you think her story sounds familiar it might be because of a book written by her friend Stephanie Batstone who whilst stationed alongside her, found love in most unusual circumstances.
