Doug provides more detail about his time in Stalag XVIII A – Wolfsberg. Refusing to work could have very serious consequences. Doug was very lucky. He talks a bit about another job he was doing on one of the farms bringing in the grass. He also refused to spread muck and got a dig in the ribs by a guard. Whilst at Stalag XVIII A he recalls being bombed by 6 American planes. This resulted in the death of a British priest and doctor. As the Russians close in, the camp is forced to march. In August 2017, not long after we met, Doug passed away. RIP.
