A series of creative educational resources have been developed to accompany the project. These resources enable students to explore the impact of the Great War on three individuals who’s oral history recording is a starting point to the learning.

The 5 lesson Plans have been specifically designed to support you in your teaching of the history of World War One. The focus is primarily on the social history, rather than the politicians and the major battles. They concentrate on the ordinary men and the impact it had on their lives.

The activities are designed primarily for KS 3. They can be used in a cross curricular format, or as an addition to a World War One history lesson. They can also be used as a stand alone project on World War One covering subjects such as History, English, ICT and Mathematics.

Pupils will develop skills in journalism and genealogy there’s an opportunity to look closer to home. The lesson plan enables your class to upload their own personal family histories and explore contemporary issues relating to memorial.

The Legasee Education Trust has worked with the Colchester Academy to develop these resources.
